Things to Do in Rye
Rye Foreshore & Beach
Rye's front beach is on Port Phillip Bay, a short walk from Beach Holiday Apartments. The water is calm and shallow close to shore, which makes it an easy beach for families, and the foreshore reserve behind it has a large playground, picnic tables and shade.
The ocean beaches on the Bass Strait side of the peninsula are a few kilometres away and are better suited to surfing and long walks than to swimming with small children.
Rye Pier
Rye Pier stretches out from the front beach and is one of the better known spots on this part of the bay. People fish from it, walk it at sunset, and it is a well used entry point for snorkelling and shore diving over the seagrass and sand flats. Conditions change with wind and tide, so check locally before you get in the water.
Peninsula Hot Springs
Peninsula Hot Springs is a short drive from Rye and is the main reason many guests come to this part of the peninsula. It has a range of geothermal bathing pools set into the hillside, plus spa treatments and food. Sessions are usually booked in advance, especially at weekends and school holidays.

Golf
The southern peninsula has a well regarded cluster of courses on the sandbelt country between Rye and Cape Schanck, including The Dunes Golf Links a short drive away. Book tee times directly with the course. If you are travelling with a group of players, see our golf group accommodation.
Local Cafes, Restaurants and Shops
Rye's shopping strip runs along Point Nepean Road opposite the foreshore, about a five-minute walk from us. There are cafes for breakfast and coffee, a bakery, pubs and restaurants, a supermarket and a bottle shop, which is handy when you are self-catering. Nearby Blairgowrie, Sorrento and Dromana add more places to eat.
Exploring the Mornington Peninsula
Rye is a good base for the wider peninsula. Within a comfortable drive you have the wineries and cellar doors of Red Hill and Main Ridge, the ocean beaches and lighthouse at Cape Schanck, the historic streets and Queenscliff ferry at Sorrento, Point Nepean National Park, and the mazes, orchards and produce stalls scattered across the hinterland.
